Tips to Help Use Summer Activities to Your Advantage

My family and close friends know that I regularly need to get my nature fix or I will go crazy. Like mindfulness, nutrition, exercise, sleep and human connection, I prioritize my need to spend time outdoors in a natural setting. While many studies have shown that time in nature improves ADHD symptoms, I personally need it, and will create time for it in my schedule. It can be weeks in a tent in the woods, hiking in the mountains, living on a sailboat or a jungle hut. It can simply be an hour walking the abandoned golf course and forest trails in City Park, or a sunrise bike ride along the lake.

My nature therapy requires digital detox to disconnect from my devices and allow my mind to wander. Only then can I be fully present and in touch with my environment, feeling and smelling the air, seeing and hearing the flora and fauna, tasting and taking in the wonders of life. For me, such a nature bath serves both as a mindfulness and gratitude practice. Fully immersing myself in observation and appreciation, I feel connected to something much, much greater than myself.

I get to experience oneness.

This connection to the universe opens my mind further, wonder and fascination take over, I see new patterns and perspectives. I see possibilities with positivity. My nature fix is a spiritual journey full of love and joy. You are part of it too.
