Actions to Take When Overwhelmed

I just had a client that raised such a great question: How do I know when I am honoring my needs or avoiding something? She had been allowing herself to sleep and rest at home a lot, but was also feeling a bit guilty about it. As the coaching conversation flowed, she decided to write two columns with the headings: Avoidance and Active Rest. The Avoidance column had words such as: anxious, combative, numbing, sunken, small and depleted. The Active Rest column had words like: empowering, present, mindful, airy, light and energizing. She came to realize that activities like binge watching TV shows and drinking were not truly restful, but signs of avoidance. Activities like reading, painting and meditation recharged her. She wanted to show up as her true authentic self, with confidence and courage.

In many ways, we Turbo Thinkers are like a Tesla. Our brains race faster than most and they require a different type of care. Simply parking the Tesla will not charge its battery. We can be mindful of where and how long to park it so that we can be fully charged and ready for the next adventure, no matter how far or how fast we want to go. In addition to quality sleep, we can choose the right activities that provide us with active rest so that we can head out into the world, empowered to show up fully and authentically.

How do you charge your Turbo Thinking brain, body and spirit?
