The Power of Neurodiversity in the Workplace
Neurodiversity offers huge pool of untapped finance talent
This article makes me so happy. Major corporations, even those in the world of finance, now see that hiring non-traditional thinkers will help them solve complex problems, while spotting market opportunities, competition and risk. A variety of brain types on the same team is crucial to innovation and creative problem solving. Hiring a range of cognitive styles, companies can design more effective teams. Embracing cognitive differences means that companies are creating programs and policies to recruit more neurodiversity into their workforce. For this to succeed, the term “neurodiversity” should simply refer to cognitive differences within the entire human race — and regard each as normal and valuable.
There is a range of valid human cognitive styles, rather than just one type of ‘normal, superior’ brain,” Silberman said. “Autism, dyslexia, and ADHD are just names for brain types that work differently but can complement neurotypical or ‘normal’ brains, and one another. Just as biodiversity helps a rainforest deal with changing conditions, neurodiversity can help a company deal with unexpected market conditions.
