Importance of Gratitude for Turbo Thinkers©

There are so many things for which to be grateful this year. Call me Pollyanna, but I am addicted to my attitude of gratitude. How can you begin to list the positive things in your life? For example, I am grateful for my sun-filled home, for my son’s sense of humor, for my daughter’s sense of responsibility, for my cat’s purrs, for my dog’s unconditional love, for my good health, etc.

When making the list - a list which I try to vary daily in order to avoid boring myself - I also question my role in having brought these positive things about. Obviously, it was not I that caused the sun to shine, but I did play an active role in designing and creating this home. While I do not cause my cat to purr, I do take the time to care for her. Even though I cannot control everything, I question how I helped bring this good fortune about. Is it all due to sheer luck? Or can I find evidence that I contributed to the positive forces in my life? When I see this, I can find the courage and the confidence to create even more positive experiences. These discussions can come about collaboratively in the coaching conversation, too. Yes, there is chance, divine intervention, mother nature - whatever you want to call it. But there is also your unique way of seeing opportunities and cultivating - creating - the good in your life. How did you make that happen?

Another gratitude practice for turbo thinkers involves identifying the traits that frustrate you and seeing them from another perspective. For example, I wish I weren’t so impulsive can be seen as I am grateful for my spontaneity. I wish I could follow directions can be seen as I am grateful for my curiosity and innovative mind. In what way did you use your traits as superpowers to propel yourself and others forward in the world? I wish I weren't so distractible could be seen as I am grateful for my wild imagination. So why settle for boredom or pessimism when you have the best of both worlds? With the attitude of gratitude and a turbo-thinking brain, you can join me in feeling good and creating even more positivity in this world. We certainly need that now more than ever!
