Creating a Routine to Stay Motivated
Mornings have been chilly in New Orleans this week...well, by subtropical standards. And with sunrise so late, it’s still dark when my alarm goes off. Knowing that my friends will be waiting for me at the corner inspires me to get out of bed, put my running clothes on, grab the leash and go. My dog, of course, sees no challenge whatsoever in this scenario.
If it were not for my neighborhood “breast friends,” I honestly don’t know if I would have gotten a good workout this morning. We all survived cancer, so you would think that this would be easy, but let’s face it: It can be hard on a dark winter morning to get out of bed and into the cold. The secret to our exercise routine is accountability. We love and respect each other. We make a commitment and a plan. We hold each other to that plan. We encourage each other to push past limiting beliefs, we support each other through injuries and any true obstacles. It helps that we have a pack of canine cheerleaders throughout the entire process.
Having an accountability buddy or support team is not a sign of weakness. It’s a sign of self-awareness and self-advocacy. It’s a sign of dedication to the execution of your plans. It’s a sign of success. Turbo thinkers are often faced with the challenges of task initiation, sustained attention and follow through. They often require a deadline and structure in their day. They often require assistance in managing their time. There is absolutely no shame in using resources for support so that your Turbo thinking brain can produce its best work.
Whether it’s virtually or in person (with a 6 foot dog leash to gauge distance), consider finding an accountability partner for productivity and for much more fun!
