Channel Creativity as a Turbo Thinker©
I just returned from a wonderful vacation in Valencia, Spain, where I reconnected with friends from my time as an exchange student 30 years ago. The city has changed, for the better, in so many ways, and we have too, with more wisdom and laugh lines. I had initially thought that the trip would be about revisiting the past, but it turned out to be about deep connection and friendship. It was full of endless possibilities.
Being in a fresh environment, in a different time zone and completely free of quotidian obligations and distractions, my imagination went Zing! Zing!
My Turbo Thinking brain went into overdrive, like it was enjoying a sunrise cruise on the autobahn at 160 km per hour, minimum. I was outdoors walking and hiking, I enjoyed the most delectable meals with fresh, hyperlocal ingredients, I used my language skills in stimulating conversations and danced the night away on more than one occasion. I soaked up the gorgeous gardens, mountain vistas and ocean air. I visited ancient hidden villages and did I mention that I ate a lot of amazing food? I fully engaged all five of my senses to be fully present and by doing so, my creativity soared: SO MANY IDEAS!
It was easy to take a bird’s eye view and gain clarity on what I really wanted and truly needed. The limiting beliefs faded away as the path appeared to be more simple, easy, and most of all fun. While I saw future opportunities, new ones just plopped into my lap- both personally, and even professionally, while I was there. While I am not going to pursue all of my creative ideas at once, I can prioritize and have the energy to execute the ones that will make the greatest impact on others and on my own sense of fulfillment.
I’ve also learned that if I want to channel my creativity, I can change my environment to stimulate my senses and my brain. I can disconnect from the daily distractions and choose to connect with people on a deep and authentic level. I can reconnect with my true self. She was there 30 years ago and she is still here now.
