5 Things We've Learned About Turbo Thinkers©

As the year draws to an end, I like to reflect and spot patterns. Here are five common traits I’ve seen in Turbo Thinkers:

We see endless possibilities.

Our turbocharged brains can come up with at least 1,000 things to do with a purple pipe cleaner. We can imagine 10,000 ways in which something can go wrong, but we can also envision just as many ways in which it can go right. We can think of hundreds of side hustles and have a plethora of projects that must be completed because of limitless opportunities for ourselves and for others.

We feel emotions intensely.

When we are happy, we can spring for joy. When we are sad, we can cry and grieve. When we are angry, we can get loud and physical. When we feel under pressure, we can hide or escape. When we feel rejected, we can feel physical pain. We can sense the energy in the room. We can empathize with those around us and feel their delight or suffering too.

We can be passionately persistent.

We can work like nobody’s business when we are driven by intrinsic motivation. Whether it’s a creative project or problem solving, if it ignites our passion, we can go into hyperfocus and stick with it until it is done. We can tune out the rest of the world and put forth herculean effort to see it through.

We need help celebrating our wins.

We can get caught up in comparing ourselves to others, seeing our shortcomings, and hearing only criticism. We can let our inner critic’s judgements and condemnations fill us with shame. We benefit from being reminded of our strengths and our previous successes. With a bank of evidence supporting our accomplishments, we can identify the keys to success and find the confidence to tackle any challenge.

We enjoy the freedom to be spontaneous.

Our brains thrive on deadlines and structure, but we don’t want to feel incarcerated by a plan. We need flexibility and freedom to change the agenda as needed. While our activity can sometimes be dictated by our mood, we have the capability to choose our actions with intent and live in alignment with our purpose and passions. We may need an accountability partner and memory support, but we can be both productive AND fun.
