Affirmations for Turbo Thinkers©

Is it just me, or does it seem like every home decor post, picture and display of the past ten years has been full of inspirational words and quotes? How many little wooden plaques, wall decals and coffee mugs can we have with cutesy affirmations in calligraphy? Gag. Right? Especially now, in 2020, “Get your happy on!” does not seem to help very much. For Turbo Thinkers, these slogans in script can even cause more harm than good. For example, Nike’s “Just do it!” just doesn’t work for the ADHD brain. If only it were that easy! I really wish I could. But I just can’t. And so now I feel incompetent. Thanks, Nike.

So what types of affirmations do work for Turbo thinkers? In my experience, the ones that work best are the ones that you make up yourself. Through a process of self discovery, you become reacquainted with your most authentic self. Remember a time when everything came so easily? Your creativity was just flowing? You felt balanced and purposeful? Maybe it was recently for only a fleeting moment or maybe it was years ago in childhood. Who were you then? How did it feel? Sit in that feeling. Describe it.

Some examples from clients:

  • I am light, fast and smart.

  • I am deeply connected to those around me.

  • I am confident and strong.

  • I am beautiful and radiate joy.

  • I am here to inspire and help others.

Without placing any judgement on how your affirmation may sound to others, how can you remind yourself of who you truly are? How can you remember that this is who you are meant to be? Let’s discover together who you get to be in this world. I am so curious and so excited to find out.
