Turbo Thinker© Tips to Remember for Summer
Summer is here! At least in New Orleans, we are up to 90 degrees fahrenheit daily with high humidity. It is downright steamy! The change of seasons introduces a new variety of challenges that crop up in my ADHD coaching practice.
1. I’m not sure I’m ready to attend social events in person quite yet...or ever.
Emotional dysregulation plays a key role here. How can you learn how to emerge like a cicada? How can you cast the shell of your old self and spend all summer singing!
2. I’m so stressed out about traveling.
So many executive functions are involved here, such as organization, planning and prioritizing. How can you trust that you won’t forget anything? Where will you go? How will you get there? With whom? What will you pack? Who takes care of the pets? etc.
3. I want to do fun outdoor activities, but by the time I’m ready the sun is going down.
More executive function skills are needed here, including time management and intrinsic motivation. How can you make the most of the day? How can you get out of the house for a weekend trip, before traffic hits, before the beach gets too crowded or the boat leaves the dock?
4. I have no idea what I’m supposed to do with my kids all summer.
Again, Turbo Thinker challenges come into play. Maybe, you missed the window to sign them for summer camp and still need to work from home. What resources can you find to support you? Who else can play the role of camp director? How can you create a fun summer for the entire family and still get enough work done? Who gets to define “fun”?
Thankfully, you are a Turbo Thinker! You possess the imaginative, spontaneous and innovative spirit that allows you to be a creative problem solver. Let’s together collaborate on how your unique brain can best address these summer challenges. It’s getting hot in here, so take off all your woes!
