Sacred Heart's Planner Redesign

In January 2017, I helped New Orleans' Academy of the Sacred Heart redesign their planner, and conducted a workshop with the entire freshman class. The original student planner was nothing more than a glorified assignment pad, and together we turned it into something functional.

Here's a write-up in Sacred Heart's newsletter about my visit:

"On January 4th, the freshman class participated in a Time Management Workshop with Mind Coach NOLA's Adela Baker. Ms. Baker led the girls through a series of steps to organize and prioritize their daily activities in order to balance school and home life. The first step to improving time management is to list absolutely everything that you have to do. The girls began listing their school and extracurricular activities in a second semester planner. Next they were asked to estimate how much time each activity would take. Ms. Baker's tips included:

  • Planning study periods around times you are most alert

  • Planning ahead to avoid distractions (place cell phones in a different room while studying)

  • Getting enough sleep (adolescents need 8-10 hours each night)

The girls learned that taking the time to arrange their activities will help them get organized and stay on track!"

Thank you for having me, Sacred Heart! I had a great time working with the freshman class, and I'm excited to see how the new planners work out in the 2017-2018 school year.
