Mind Coach NOLA on Setting Priorities
I could never survive without my priorities lists. They keep me on track and help me avoid wasting time on other activities. So how do you make this list in the first place? First of all, are you aware of your goals? Where do you want to go in life? What do you need to do to get there? Where do you want to be this time next month? What do you need to do to get there? Let’s break that down by the week. Take a look at your schedule. What can you realistically accomplish this week to get closer to reaching your goals? These tasks are your priorities. You can even take it day by day.
Obviously, tasks like going to the grocery, walking the dog, and washing your kid’s uniform are priorities, too. With some basic time management skills, you can find a way to cross things off your to-do list and still fit in time for rest and relaxation. Moreover, your accomplishments will be in alignment with your personal goals, rather than someone else’s. Say your time is limited today, so maybe a realistic goal would be just making three important phone calls. How long would each one take? How long would it take to leave your message if they don’t answer? By the end of the day, how would you feel if you just got those three calls done? Yay, you! I knew you could do it!
