How to Stay Organized as a Digital Nomad with ADHD

Even before the pandemic, I coached many Turbo Thinkers and digital nomads. As the meaning of the workplace continues to evolve, more and more people are embracing the digital nomad lifestyle. A digital nomad refers to individuals who earn a living working online in various locations of their choosing. They may work out of cafes, beaches, or hotel rooms, as they are not tied down to any one location. For Turbo Thinkers who no longer work at a fixed business location, many challenges can present themselves. While we worked together two-dimensionally on a screen, and not in person across the globe in the most exotic locations (with WiFi)! I have learned so many keys to success.

We create a routine and stick to it. When we know what our brain needs to perform well, we can infuse that into our new environment. For instance, if we know that we write best in the morning, after a walk outdoors and sunrise meditation and coffee, we find a way to make that happen. If we know that we work best with a healthy diet and sleep, we can set some boundaries with social invitations.

Of course, we want to explore your environment, meet new people, and set off on escapades. That’s the whole point of the nomad lifestyle! We get to live as minimalists and enjoy freedom. Creating a plan and adhering to it does not compromise our liberty. By including time to explore and socialize in addition to work times, we can feel both accomplished and adventurous. We can be flexible with our personal plan without abandoning it. We can be spontaneous without being impulsive.

We keep our core values and mission on the top of our minds because all of the novel opportunities can be a distraction from our real dreams. A Turbo Thinker’s working memory can use some support to remember what our goals are. What are the weekly objectives? What are the top three tasks to complete each day? How will we know if it has been a successful day? Not only for work, but personally as well. For example, by the end of a stay in a new city or country, what would we like to have seen or accomplished? How can we make time for that without compromising our work? We get to design our life, making decisions that propel us forward with joy and learning. How cool is that? Come join Turbo Thinkers around the world.
