ADHD Coaching in New Orleans: Five More Questions with Mind Coach NOLA's Adela

Mind Coach NOLA's social media manager here, with a few more questions for Adela Baker, ADHD coach, executive function coach, and life coach extraordinaire!

What is the biggest obstacle our society has with ADHD-diagnosed individuals?

Getting over the acronym. It’s a horrible name that produces a stigma. “Deficit”? “Disorder”? Come on. It’s a gift!

What do you do as a mind coach to work around this obstacle?

Helping a client name all of the strengths and talents he has that others don’t, and teaching him how to use them to his advantage. These are superpowers!

What was a time in your life where you overcame an obstacle and felt proud of yourself?

I remember playing in a roller derby scrimmage after having just finished radiation therapy and several surgeries following breast cancer. I thought I was pretty badass that day.

What is your biggest piece of advice for living a fulfilling life?

Understand yourself and play an active role in your life. Define what you need and what you want, then find a way to make it happen. If you live in alignment with your true self while maintaining a positive outlook, you will achieve happiness, balance and fulfillment.

(This process requires various executive function skills such as motivation, planning, prioritizing, time management and organization. The good news is that these skills can be taught and you can retrain your brain!)

What one quote inspires you when you're struggling?

"Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you are right." -Henry Ford
