10 Tips for Turbo Thinkers©

  1. What is the #1 task you need to accomplish today? Rather than thinking of all that you have to do, should do and could do, narrow it down to one, two or maximum three small tasks that you want to have completed by the time you go to bed tonight. Make sure they are specific and in alignment with your purpose. Write them down and put them where you can see them. With our minds buzzing during this transition period, have a bit of compassion for yourself. Just accomplishing one thing might be good enough.

  2. What is within your control? The media can send us into a frenzy, causing Turbothinkers to create apocalyptic scenarios in our heads. Rather than downloading a Coronavirus tracker app, consider what you can control. For example, you can control how you react to news, how you spend your time, what you eat, how you exercise, when you sleep and how you communicate. You can control your mindset, find the positive and seek the opportunities. You can choose to embrace the challenge.

  3. What can you do today that you could not do last week? Or the week before? Maybe you can have lunch with your partner. Maybe you can walk the dog more often. Maybe you can teach your kids how to do laundry. Maybe you can try that new yoga video. Maybe you can take a virtual class. Where are the opportunities? Social distancing does not need to be lonely or boring! How can you make it fun? Rather than long for the past to return, take this time to invent a new you.

  4. Germs and viral microbes are in the air, but so is love! Who is confined within your same four walls? How can you identify and praise their best qualities? How can you thank them for the joy they bring? Maybe you are grateful for someone not in your house. How can you show your love without the option of physical touch? Take this time to share your love.

  5. In what way are you more globally connected today than you were last week? Last month? Of course we instinctively care most for ourselves and our immediate family, but how can you connect with those around the world? With this increased global consciousness, what more can you do? How can you apply this to improving the situation of all living beings on this planet? Take an action that will make a positive impact on all mankind.

  6. What can you create today? What resources do you have at your immediate disposal right now? How can you use them to make something new? Something for yourself or for others? Maybe it’s a new recipe, or a poem, a dance or a song. Maybe it’s a virtual version of something you have created before. Let your imagination run wild and allow yourself to use this time and space for a new creation.

  7. It is officially Spring! In what ways do you notice Spring from your window, in your backyard or in your neighborhood? What do you notice today that you did not see last week or last month? Maybe it’s the first time you notice a certain tree, plant, squirrel or bird at all. What birdsong do you hear? Do you see caterpillars? Are you lucky enough to have butterflies? Challenge yourself to identify at least 5 signs of Earth’s renewal today.

  8. What a hey day for family home cooked meals! How can you involve everyone in your household in the process? How can you together choose a healthy meal, prepare it, set the table, remain seated and share the meal, then clean up? How can you make it a democratic process and fun at the same time? Will you involve music? Hula hooping while baking? Disco dancing while simmering? Can you set a timer for fastest dishwasher unloading? What element of fun can you incorporate into your mealtime today?

  9. Every day is now filled with mindful connection. Every point of human contact is made with a thoughtful conscious choice. How can you thoughtfully reach out to others today? If you were able to host a party right now, in a virus free world, who would you invite? Look at your list. When was the last time that you physically saw each person? When was the last time that spoke on the phone? What is stopping you from reaching out today? How are they doing? Knowledge gained from social media posts do not count. Can you use a video conference app to connect? Or least a phone call? Can you host a virtual party? Hooray for mindfully connecting with intent and presence.

  10. How can you move your body outdoors? How can you soak up your daily dose of vitamin D? How can you let movement in nature infuse your body with dopamine and serotonin? Who can safely join you? Can you walk your dog? Offer to walk your neighbor’s dog? Can you meet a friend at the park and walk at a safe distance from each other? Maybe you can take out your bike or a skateboard. Maybe you can shoot hoops or roller skate. Maybe you can hopscotch or skip rope. If you can move outside, rejoice! And seize the opportunity. Find joy in moving your body under a big sky.
